Programs and Services

Act for MS provides the programs and services listed below for people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that live in the Coachella Valley. Programs and services are free to insure that all can participate without having to eliminate or reduce vital needs such as housing, food, utilities, etc.

Strength Training

Participants receive one-on-one training twice each week for one hour from certified exercise trainers who are experienced working with people with multiple sclerosis.  An exercise plan is developed based on a physical evaluation and recommendations from a physical therapist.

Chair Yoga

This is an adaptive yoga group class that works on flexibility, balance, spasticity, breathing and reducing stress. Even if you are in a wheelchair, you can receive the many benefits of chair yoga taught by an experienced yoga teacher.

Electric Bills Payment Program

The need for air conditioning is vital to most people with multiple sclerosis. Many experience extreme weakness or other symptoms from even a slight elevation in core body temperature (one-quarter to one-half a degree). This program pays electric bills to provide air conditioning during the heat of summer for those who meet income guidelines.

Adaptive Equipment Payment Program

This program provides direct support for devices or equipment that increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of those with MS that meet income guidelines if items are not covered by medical insurance.

Quarterly Support Luncheons

These free forums include a speaker, lunch and roundtable discussions that provide MS participants and family members an opportunity to share success strategies and build a caring community network.

ACT for MS Education & Resource Center

Computers available for personal use, research, classes, library, workshops and social events.
